LOOKING INTO AFRICA’S CRIPPLING REFINERIES
Nigeria the largest economy in Africa is the regions' dominant oil producer with a daily output of an average of over 2million barrels; only four refineries service the entire country.
Angola produces 1.8 million barrels of oil per day and has only one full-scale refinery. Egypt, the fourth-largest oil producer, with 723,000 barrels per day, has nine refineries!!
These statistics highlight market demands for refined petroleum products.
Oil production far exceeds refinery outputs, while domestic/ regional demands are increasing at an alarming rate.
To satisfy the market demands for refined petroleum products, due to the low refining capacity within West Africa and Africa at large, key industry players rely on importation of refined petroleum products.
